Leadership Academy 2009

CKI Leadership Academy 2009 was a life-changing experience for all those that attended.Circle K Leadership Academy occurred from May 15th to the 20th at Waycross Camp in Morgantown, Indiana, a place where cell phone reception was literally non-existent and where internet access was quite limited.

The Western Canada District sent only one representative, Louis Bayes. Overall, over 55 Circle K members of various experience backgrounds showed up to the camp to take in the amazing experience over the six days.

Attendees were trained in the aspects of community building, developing a leadership mindset, envision and enlist, embody and empower, evaluate and encourage (E6), as well as making commitments. Attendees also took in numerous videos, such as Validation and Shackleton’s story of survival in Antarctica about how these components can help others succeed.

Attendees were pushed to go one step further in all their tasks, having to create and promote ideas in 30 minutes (an activity that put a lot of strain on all attendees), as well as participating in fun activities, service projects, and emotion-filled chats within its neighbourhood groups.

Many new memories and friendships have been developed throughout the course of the program, as well as strengthening already existing friendships. I highly recommend it to anyone in the District who would like to attend next year.
