District Events for 2009-2010 Being Planned

Louis Bayes

4/6/2009

Your district board needs your input as to where and when to host district events! – The District Board wants your input as to where to hold some of this year's District Events. We want people to be interested and attend these fun fellowship events. The events in question are: DOTC (District Officer Training Conference), Mid-Summer Climax, FTR (Fall Training Retreat), and DCON (WE-CAN District Convention).

  • DOTC
    • What
      • The training that will take place would be to ensure that the district board and club presidents know what to expect of the district officers and experiences from past board members.
    • When
      • I am looking to have DOTC take place on the evening of April 19, April 26, or May 17. The sooner, the better. PLEASE let me know which day you prefer.
    • Where
      • It will be hosted by Skype/phone, and some materials will be posted on Google Docs.
    • Who
      • The people that should attend are Soheil, Sherwin, Andrew, Ali, Susan, Ian, Christine, and myself. Tracy, if you would like to attend, please let me know.
  • Mid-Summer Climax
    • What
      • The Mid-Summer Climax was designed to allow students to spend a weekend in the summer to hang out with fellow Circle K'ers, Key Clubbers, and Kiwanians. It has the potential for other District Circle K'ers to attend.
    • When
      • I am looking at the weekends of either July 3-5 or July 10-12. This would be the best time slots for Key Clubbers, as they would have just finished their classes for the summer. One problem is that the Key Club International Convention would be July 1-4. Maybe have a chat with your Key CLubs to see if there is anyone interested in attending the KCICON. PLEASE let me know which weekend you prefer.
    • Where
      • TBA; looking for a campsite outside of Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, or Regina, or Cypress Hills. Which do you believe would work out the best?
    • Who
      • Mid-Summer Climax will be open to all membership, as well as Key Clubs and Kiwanis Clubs, and even other District Circle K'ers.
  • FTR
    • What
      • The Fall Training Retreat is an opportunity to meet other Circle K'ers, Key Clubbers, and Kiwanians in the district in an effort to train an effective, involved membership.
    • When
      • Possible weekends include September 25-27 (may be too close to Student Group Recruitment Week), October 2-4 (U of A may have prior commitments), and October 23-25. These dates are intended to get people involved right away and to not interfere with exam studies. PLEASE let me know which weekend you prefer.
    • Where
      • TBA; a location different from Mid-Summer Climax, and does not have to be on a campsite, ie. Campus. Have any ideas?
    • Who
      • FTR will be open to all membership, as well as Key Clubs and Kiwanis Clubs, and even other District Circle K'ers.
  • DCON
    • What
      • The 41st Annual District Convention is a chance for clubs of all levels to get together to celebrate the achievements of the past year, elect new officials for the new year, modify district bylaws, endorse a nomination for International Office or amendments to International Bylaws. Members attending will also receive training in workshops and participate in a District Service Project. We want a theme this year, and we are thinking of "Race to Serve". We would like 2-4 workshops, and a few convention takeaways.
    • When
      • The main set of dates should be SATURDAY, February 13 to MONDAY, February 15. These dates should be at the beginning of Reading Week. Why the beginning of reading week? To prevent people from not coming because they did not study earlier on in the Reading Week. Sunday to Tuesday was not a good choice as the intensive day fell on a holiday where most places were closed. PLEASE let me know what you think of the dates.
    • Where
      • TBA; looking at Edmonton/Calgary, Winnipeg/Brandon, or in Saskatchewan. Let me know which location you believe would best fit, and why.
    • Who
      • DCON will be open to all membership, as well as Key Clubs and Kiwanis Clubs, and other District Circle K'ers.

Please, please, please repond with your preferences, your questions, your comments. Your input is crucial into making this the best year we could possibly have. I have a poll going on SurveyMonkey for information. Click Here to voice your opinions! You can also e-mail me by clicking here.
